Denis Goldberg was Accused no.3 in the 1964 Rivonia Trial, standing alongside fellow trialists Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki and others. He was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of sabotage as a member of the ANC's armed wing Umkhonto we Sizwe. He served 22 years in jail and was released in 1985. In July 2018 videographer Cherryl Mojapelo and I interviewed Denis Goldberg at his home in Hout Bay. His health was failing as he battled with brain cancer and he needed oxygen to assist his breathing. He died 9 months later.
