Vuma Levin & Cara Stacey

Over the years, I’ve always been so impressed with the winners of The Standard Bank young artists award, and this year is no exception. So this Sunday on The World Show I’ve invited two of 2021’s recipients:
Vuma Levin is a jazz guitarist who combines South African musical traditions with jazz, pop and electronica. He’s lived and worked across the globe, and his latest, fourth album Antique Spoons, is a critically acclaimed concept project, accompanied by the release of three short films And Cara Stacey, a pianist who also plays traditional bows [umrhubhe, uhadi and makhweyane, as well as the mbira and budongo. Cara’s’s committed to contextualising and preserving indigenous southern African music, connecting it to different musical histories and sound forms.
Besides being extremely talented artists, both are also academics and lecturer at universities.
