Tourist disturbance caused desert ellie-calf's death
--:--
It has been reported that tourists often get too close to wild animals and cause them to panic. The guides of Twyfelfontein Country Lodge came across a sad and unique story of an elephant calf that was too weak to survive in the harsh environment, but the mother carried her dead calf along. It seems that this elephant cow and calf were disturbed by tourist vehicles, causing the mother to keep moving which prevented the calf from drinking and resting. Izak Smit from the Desert Lions Human Wildlife Relations Aid, Dehlra, spoke to ITN on what could be done to protect wild animals and teach the tourists not get too close to them.
