The first episode of our limited podcast series, commemorating 20 years of the Maputo Protocol was recorded live at the launch in partnership with Sunday World on 25 July, 2023. On this episode, we attempt a broadly understand the Maputo Protocol in relation to the rights of women and girls. Our co-hosts, Phinah Kodisang and Pontsho Pilane uncover the state of women’s and girls’ rights on the continent, the challenges that states face in achieving the goal of gender equality, the gaps that exist in the provisions of the protocol, as well as implementation and accountability measures.
