When you step into your local pharmacy, you'll see entire aisles dedicated to health supplements, which are often marketed as having the key to our daily health needs. The supplement industry has been said to be worth R2.9 Billion, and is growing annually at a rate of 7.7 %. Whether it's vitamin B, C, D, K, magnesium, zinc, skin supplements, hair supplements, Omega 3's etc, these products are marketed as essential to our health, and they offer long ranging benefits for everything from mental performance to immune boosting and anti-aging. If you choose to incorporate these into your daily routine you may end up paying quite a bit for wanting and "needing" every capsule on the shelf. Are health supplements truly worth the hype that they receive in the wellness industry?
