Johannesburg’s most anticipated creative celebration, the Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival, kicks off today at Constitution Hill—ushering in a powerful blend of art, music, youth empowerment, and innovation under the theme: “Celebrating The Legacy Of Creative Expression.”

Now in full swing, the 2025 edition of Basha Uhuru marks an exciting expansion with fresh programme partners and a renewed focus on driving the creative economy. As part of Youth Month, the festival is hosting The Creative Conference, where aspiring and established creatives alike gather to exchange ideas, share skills, and fuel conversations shaping the future of South Africa’s creative industries.

Today’s sessions promise engaging panel discussions, workshops, networking opportunities, and showcases from some of the country’s most inspiring young talent.

And there’s more to look forward to. In a vibrant extension of the festivities, the Sounds of Freedom Music Festival will now take place on 13 September 2025, just in time for spring and summer energy. It promises a genre-spanning lineup of performers and an electrifying celebration of music, identity, and resilience.

From live art installations to creative business talks, Basha Uhuru continues to be more than just a festival—it’s a launchpad for youth voices, collaboration, and sustainable growth in the arts.
